About the concert:
“Beneath the Northern Lights” captures the unique soundscape and harmonies of Nordic music. With this program, Oslo Voices seeks to offer comfort and serenity in a restless world.
The repertoire features work by composers such as Edvard Grieg, Knut Nystedt, Morten Lauridsen, Frank Havrøy and others. It blends classical Norwegian folk melodies and selected English pieces that reflect the setting of the concert.
About the conductor:
Ingrid Hanken – Conductor
Ingrid Hanken has led Oslo Voices since April 2017. She studied at the Norwegian Academy of Music and St. Olaf College in the USA, and brings a rich background as a singer, vocal coach, and ensemble instructor.
As a performer, Ingrid is perhaps best known for her long-standing role in the acclaimed vocal sextet Nordic Voices. The ensemble has released 15 recordings—several of them award-winning—and premiered numerous contemporary works by both Norwegian and international composers.
Ingrid has a deep interest in the dynamic between choir and conductor, drawing on her extensive experience as an ensemble singer. Her approach emphasizes attentive listening, musical collaboration, score interpretation, and a strong awareness of ensemble blend and harmony. She places particular focus on intonation, precision, and creating a unified musical expression.
About the choir:
Oslo Voices is an acclaimed chamber choir based in Oslo, Norway, consisting of approximately 28 singers. The choir regularly performs in the Oslo area and has toured internationally in recent years, with concerts in Norway, Germany, Estonia, and the United Kingdom.
Under the direction of conductor Ingrid Hanken, Oslo Voices seeks to move audiences through present and engaging interpretations of a diverse repertoire. Recent programs have featured music by both historical and contemporary composers, including Norwegian names such as Edvard Grieg, Knut Nystedt, Henrik Ødegaard, Bjørn Morten Christophersen, Trond Kverno, and others, alongside works by Bach, Mozart, MacMillan, Reger, Willcocks, and more.
While Oslo Voices primarily performs a cappella, the choir also embraces larger productions. Recent highlights include Mozart’s Requiem, and in 2026, the choir will present Bach’s St. John Passion in collaboration with musicians from Oslo Circles and renowned soloists including Guy Cutting, Berit Norbakken, Marianne Beate Kielland, and others.

Het Noorse Kultuurhuis nodigt u graag uit voor een zondagmiddagconcert met het veelgeprezen kamerkoor Oslo Voices, met aansluitend de mogelijkheid om in Noorse stijl te genieten van een maaltijd.
Over het concert:
“Beneath the Northern Lights” geeft het unieke klankbeeld en de prikkelende harmonieën van Noordse muziek weer. Met dit programma wil Oslo Voices troost en kalmerende evenwicht bieden in een rusteloze wereld.
Het repertoire bevat werk van componisten zoals Edvard Grieg, Knut Nystedt, Morten Lauridsen, Frank Havrøy en anderen. Het combineert klassieke Noorse volksmelodieën met een selectie van Engelse stukken die het Noordse karakter van het programma aanvullen.
We zijn verheugd dat Oslo Voices dit programma in het Noorse Kultuurhuis wil presenteren en kijken uit naar een uur vol prachtige en ontroerende muziek.
Over de dirigent Ingrid Hanken:
Dirigent Ingrid Hanken leidt Oslo Voices sinds april 2017. Ze studeerde aan de Noorse Muziekacademie en het St. Olaf College in de VS en heeft een veelzijdige carrière als zangeres, zangcoach en ensemble-instructeur.
Als uitvoerend artiest is Ingrid misschien wel het meest bekend om haar jarenlange deelname aan het veelgeprezen vocale sextet Nordic Voices. Dit ensemble heeft 15 opnames uitgebracht – waarvan er verschillende bekroond zijn – en talloze hedendaagse werken van zowel Noorse als internationale componisten in première gebracht.
Ingrid heeft een grote interesse in de dynamiek tussen koor en dirigent, en put daarbij uit haar uitgebreide ervaring als ensemblezangeres. Met haar aanpak legt zij de nadruk op aandachtig luisteren, muzikale samenwerking, partituurinterpretatie en een sterk bewustzijn van de harmonie en de samenklank van het ensemble. Zij besteedt bijzondere aandacht aan intonatie, precisie en het creëren van een uniforme muzikale expressie.
Over het koor Oslo Voices:
Oslo Voices is een kamerkoor van topniveau met een uitgebreide concertactiviteit, waaronder tournees in Noorwegen, Duitsland, Estland en het Verenigd Koninkrijk.
Onder leiding van dirigent Ingrid Hanken streeft Oslo Voices ernaar het publiek te raken met actuele en boeiende interpretaties van een divers repertoire. Recente programma’s bevatten muziek van zowel historische als hedendaagse componisten, waaronder veel Noorse namen, naast werken van Bach, Mozart, MacMillan, Reger, Willcocks en anderen.
Hoewel Oslo Voices voornamelijk a capella optreedt, omarmt het koor ook grotere producties. Recente hoogtepunten omvatten Mozarts Requiem en in 2026 zal het koor Bachs Johannes Passion uitvoeren in samenwerking met musici van Oslo Circles en gerenommeerde solisten zoals Guy Cutting, Berit Norbakken, Marianne Beate Kielland en anderen.
